KARACHI (Kashmir English): Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Tuesday responded to the reports circulating on social media regarding the extension of school holidays until April 15.
Several reports on social media suggested that the Punjab government has extended holidays in educational institutions across the province till April 12 in view of the government’s austerity measures. Currently, the schools are observing holidays till March 31.
In a post on his Facebook account, the minister of the government has not made a decision on the extension of school holidays yet. He also urged citizens to avoid listening to unconfirmed reports.
“No Decision on Extension of School Holidays Yet, Pls Avoid Fake News,” he wrote.
The Education Minister said that the announcement of any extension of holidays is made only through official accounts. He warned that spreading false information not only creates anxiety among the public but also affects the education system.
Hayat added that the current situation is being continuously reviewed and decisions will be taken in the interest of students and teachers. If any change is needed, it will be officially announced, he said.
The minister stressed that maintaining the continuity of education is the top priority of the government.
It should be noted that various news reports regarding the possible extension of school holidays have been circulating on social media for the past few days; however, the provincial government has denied these reports.
Punjab mulls holidays’ extension
Earlier, media outlets reported that the Punjab government is considering imposing more measures in a bid to tackle an energy crisis in the country due to the Middle East conflict.
The measures include extending holidays in educational institutions until April 15, along with the hybrid learning system in schools.
Sources said that the Punjab Energy Department submitted fresh recommendations to the provincial authorities, proposing fuel rationing on the pattern of the federal government to manage limited resources.
The department has also suggested introducing a coupon-based or digital system to ensure the equitable distribution of petrol and diesel. It further proposed limiting fuel supply to vehicles on specific days as part of broader rationing efforts.
In addition, strict work-from-home directives have been recommended for private organisations, while a complete ban on non-essential events has also been proposed to conserve energy.
