LAHORE (Kashmir English): Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced on Tuesday that school summer vacations across the province will begin earlier than planned, starting from May 28, due to the ongoing severe heatwave.
The announcement comes as temperatures continue to rise sharply across the region, with the government prioritising the safety and well-being of students and school staff. The Punjab Minister of Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, announced that the province’s schools will commence summer vacations this Friday, May 28, because of the heatwave.
The region is seeing greatly increased temperatures which is why the government is taking action to ensure the safety and health of students and school staff. The decision was made because the heat was increasing and noted that earlier summer holidays for schools help ensure safety for all.
In addition, the minister announced that from May 21, school timings would be adjusted. Now, classes in Punjab schools will close by 11:30am so students can avoid the heat of the midday sun. Even though there are worries about gaps in education earlier this year, Hayat points out that children’s safety is most important.
