KUWAIT/MUSCAT: Kuwait and Oman have declared a public holiday on January 18 on the occasion of Shab-e-Miraj, celebrated every year on the night of 27th Rajab 1447.
In both countries, all institutions and schools, and colleges will remain closed, while there will be no public holiday on Shab-e-Miraj in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Since Friday is already a holiday in Kuwait, the holidays will continue from January 16 to January 18.
The government has also decided to give a holiday on Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18, while Sunday has been declared an alternative holiday.
Normal work will resume from Monday, January 19, 2026.
In Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make a final announcement after the sighting of the moon of Sha’ban.
Shab-e-Barat holds great importance in Islamic beliefs as this night is considered a night of worship, repentance, and supplications to seek the mercy and forgiveness of Allah Almighty.
On this night, people recite the Quran, offer voluntary prayers, intend to fast, and ask Allah for forgiveness for their sins.
Special gatherings of remembrance and supplications are organized in mosques and Islamic centers on this night, where scholars and religious leaders tell people the virtues of this night and the methods of worship.
