MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Secretary of the Election Commission of Azad Kashmir has clarified that there is no issue with the registration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a political party and that the registration process will be completed once the Chief Election Commissioner is appointed.
PTI central leader and Opposition Leader Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, accompanied by General Secretary Mir Atiq-ur-Rehman, met with the Secretary of the Election Commission in his office.
Concern among PTI workers
The Opposition Leader informed the Secretary Election Commission that there is deep concern among PTI workers and the public due to the non-registration of the party.
The Secretary assured that as soon as the Chief Election Commissioner is appointed, the registration case file will be sent to his office for approval.
“Currently, the only obstacle in the registration process is the non-appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner.”
Khawaja Farooq Ahmed said that as Leader of the Opposition, he made every effort to fulfill his duties to help fill this constitutional position, which has been vacant since January 14, 2025.
“In this regard, I have also held meetings with the Prime Minister and written to him for a consultative meeting. I have also drawn his attention in the assembly during sessions to fulfill on the subject.”
“I also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chairman Kashmir Council. It is hoped that in the month of September, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir will fulfill his constitutional responsibility in this regard so that our party could also be registered.”
The Secretary Election Commission assured that the registration process will be completed soon after the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner.
