RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Police launched an operation against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers sit-in at Gorakhpur checkpoint near Adiala Jail here, and took Aleema Khan, sister of the party’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, and several other individuals into custody.
The local police took Aleema Khan into custody after she refused to wind up the sit-in the party workers had staged in the wake of being denied meeting with Imran Khan.
As Aleema Khan refused to wind up sit-in on the Adiala Road, female police personnel were called and the workers at the sit-in were asked to clear the road.
Negotiations with Aleema Khan
Despite the police request, negotiations were unsuccessful, and Aleema Khan flatly refused to end the sit-in.
After that, the police sprayed water to remove the sit-in and also took 8-10 workers into custody, shifting them to a prisoner van. Aleema Khan was also taken into custody at the time.
During the sit-in, Imran Khan’s other sister, Noreen Niazi, fainted, requiring immediate medical attention. It should be noted that the police had closed the road leading to Adiala Jail, and even today, no leader or family member was allowed to meet Imran Khan.
After the incident, the situation remained tense, and a continuation of the political stand-off between the government and the party is being anticipated.
