BAGH, AJK (Kashmir English): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has suspended the basic membership of Major (R) Latif Khalique, former ticket-holder from Bagh, for explicitly extending support to a new entrant against the party policy.
Secretary-General PTI AJK Mir Ateeq ur Rehman issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday. It said that Khalique didn’t respond to the show-cause notice, after which President PTI Azad Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, approved the suspension of his basic party membership.
The notification states that there will be no compromise on the party’s discipline, and strict action will be taken against anyone who violates party policy.
The notification for suspension of Major (R) Latif Khalique was shared on social media by central leader of PTI Western Bagh, Tauseef Abbasi.
PTI ticket-holder
It is worth noting that Major (R) Latif Khalique contested the last elections on the PTI ticket from the Western Bagh constituency but was unsuccessful.
Before the 2021 elections, he used to contest elections on the Jamaat-e-Islami ticket.
After his defeat in the last election, Major (R) Latif Khalique contested the local elections and defeated former Prime Minister Sardar Atiq Khan’s cousin, Major (R) Nasrullah, for the district councilor’s seat.
However, when a businessman Sajid Iqbal Abbasi entered the political arena, Major (R) Latif Khalique supported him and announced that he would not contest the upcoming general elections, after which he was issued a notice.
It is important to note that Sajid Iqbal Abbasi has carried out development works worth millions of rupees out of his own pocket after entering the constituency, and Latif Khalique is openly supporting him.
It is yet to see whether Latif Khalique will resign from the district councilor’s position.
