ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): PSL 10 breaks records, the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is making waves, not just on the field, but in homes across Pakistan and beyond. This year’s tournament has seen a massive 826.5 per cent jump in live streaming viewership in Pakistan compared to last year, setting new records for the league.
What makes this achievement even more impressive is the timing. For the first time, PSL is being held at the same time as the Indian Premier League (IPL), a period most cricket boards avoid. The PSL is usually played in February and March, but this year it was moved to April due to Pakistan preparing to host the ICC Champions Trophy later in 2025.
PSL 10 commenced on April 11 by starting with a thrilling kickoff ceremony which took place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The children wearing white and green clothes delivered the national anthem alongside the PSL trophy and franchise owners who stood on stage.
The celebration proceeded with legendary Sufi singer Abida Parveen heading a culturally representative performance supported by traditional Pakistani dance movements. The opening match that followed saw defending champions Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by eight wickets.
The tournament features six teams, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, and Peshawar Zalmi, competing in a total of 34 matches from April 11 to May 18.
Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is hosting 13 of those matches, including the two Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi will host 11 games, including the first Qualifier on May 13. Karachi and Multan will each host five games as well.
So far, fans have shown record-breaking enthusiasm for PSL 10. According to an official Instagram post as PSL 10 breaks records, the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is making waves, not just on the field, from the league, “Pakistan tuned in like never before! #HBLPSLX smashes streaming records with an 826.5 per cent jump!”
As of now, Islamabad United sits at the top of the points table, winning all three of their matches. Karachi Kings are also in strong form, sitting third with two wins from three games. The two teams are set to face each other in a highly anticipated match later today.
Despite the scheduling clash with the IPL, the PSL has managed to hold its ground, proving that with local support, quality cricket, and strong storytelling, the league continues to grow year after year.
