MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir Private Schools and Colleges Association (APSCA) has announced a statewide protest on February 27 against the issuance of unfair electricity bills and illegal taxation.

The association said that the government issued a notification on December 8, decreasing the electricity price for private schools to Rs 15 per unit. “But, almost three months have gone and the Electricity Department has been charging Rs 29.81 per unit bill and tax to private schools, which, after including the tax amount, is making Rs 46 per unit.”

APSCA officials met twice with the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and the Secretary of Electricity and also made it clear in the application that bills should be issued to private schools as per the government notification.

Central President APSCA Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Bukhari said that the owners, students, and teachers of private schools across Azad Kashmir will stage a protest on February 27.

The government and the electricity department have not yet moved forward with the verbally collected expenses.

“We do not accept such cruel laws. If the government wants the public’s legitimate rights not to be provided to them through dialogue, but to be accepted through protest, then now the decision will be on the streets,” APSCA said.
