BHIMBER (Kashmir English): President Azad Kashmir has urged the US to lead efforts for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The president of the region of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has called on the United States (US) to play the leading role in steps that are required to be taken towards the resolution of the longstanding Kashmir Dispute.

Addressing an iftar event in the town of Bhimber, he underlined the deteriorating human rights and safety situation in the region of Illegaly Indian Occupied Kashmir (IIOJK). He also urged the global community to take action.

In the past, too, the leaders of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have urged the global community, including the Overseas Kashmiris and International powers, to raise their voices against the unjust rule in IIOJK. “The worsening human rights conditions in IIOJK demand urgent international intervention,” he stated while emphasizing the need for diplomatic steps and efforts in order to ensure justice and peace for the people of IIOJK.

President Azad Kashmir, along with other leaders from the region and the entirety of Pakistan, has been actively advocating for international support on the Kashmir Issue while trying to engage international attention on the longstanding problem. In an attempt to raise awareness regarding the ongoing issue.

Chaudhry has emphasized that the worsening situation in IIOJK requires immediate action by the international community. He stressed that through diplomatic action, the people of Kashmir need justice and delivered an appeal to international powers to act actively toward conflict resolution.

The issue of Kashmir is a long-standing territorial issue that has been the bone of contention between Pakistan and India, dating back to the year of independence in 1947. The residents of Jammu and Kashmir maintain years-long exposure to continuous governance instability, along with rising violence as well as human rights violations. The success of both India-Pakistan peace and regional stability demands a solution that respects Kashmiri aspirations.
