PMD predicts heavy rain, snowfall in Azad Kashmir ahead of Eid

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rain and snowfall over mountains in upper and central parts of the country including Azad Kashmir from tomorrow (Tuesday).

According to the PMD press release, “A strong westerly wave is likely to approach western/upper parts of the country on 24th March (night) and affect upper and central parts from 25th to 27th March.”

Under the influence of this weather system, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will receive widespread rain and snow over mountains from March 25 to 28 with occasional gaps. The areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

“Widespread rain-wind/thunderstorm (snow over mountains) with few heavy falls is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar), from March 15 to 28 with occasional gaps,” the press release read.

Moreover, the heavy fall with hailstorms is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi from March 25 to 27 with occasional gaps.

Rain is likely to fall in Waziristan, Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and D.I. Khan onMarch 25 and 26, the Met Office said in a press release.

Several areas in Islamabad and Punjab also expect rain with thunderstorms from Tuesday to Thursday with occasional gaps. “Areas include Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad.”

According to the Met Dept, Balochistan will also witness rain-wind/thunderstorms in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Musakhel, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Sibbi, Khuzdar, Chaghi, and Noshki on March 25 and 26.

Wind and duststorms will prevail in the upper parts of Sindh on March 25 and 26, while, the weather to remain hot for the next 24 hours in Karachi.

The maximum temperature in Karachi is likely to be recorded between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours, according to the weather department.

“Warm and dry winds are blowing from the northwest at a slow speed in Karachi and the humidity in the air is 52%.”

Azad Kashmir weather update

As per the synoptic situation, partly cloudy weather is expected in Kashmir on Monday night, while, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Kashmir.

On Monday, the citizens witnessed dry weather in Azad Kashmir with minimum temperatures of 9°C and 32°C was the highest to record in Mirpur and Bhimber.

Muzaffarabad:

The weather in the capital is expected to be wet as the Met Office has forecasted a rain spell. A high temperature of 22°C and low at 11°C is expected with light rain. As for the night cloudy skies with a low near 12°C can be expected.

Neelum Valley:

The weather in the Neelum Valley is expected to remain cloudy with chances of rain and snowfall over mountains. A high temperature of 16°C and lowes temperature of 6°C is expected with rain. As for tonight cloudy skies with a low near 6°C can be expected.

Rawalakot:

The weather in Rawalakot remained partly cloudy today. For tomorrow cloudy skies with chances of rainfall can be expected. A high of 22°C with winds at 10 km/h can be obsevred.
