ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, is set to hold a key meeting with United States President Donald Trump in Washington today (September 25), White House confirmed.
The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 pm US Time at the Oval Office. It will be an indoor meeting, and no media briefing will be conducted afterwards, as per sources.
Field Marshal, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar would also join the meeting.
According to the sources, regional and international matters would be discussed on both sides during the meeting, which is an indication of increasingly strengthened bilateral relations.
Earlier, the PM Shehbaz Sharif had a very short but informal meeting with US President Donald Trump at the end of the Arab Islamic Summit in New York.
The encounter occurred in a cordial environment, with the two leaders shaking hands and greeting each other. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar was also present during the short meeting.
Additionally, at the session of the United Nations General Assembly, PM Sharif recognized Trump’s work towards world peace and remarked on the key points made in his speech.
The premier also underscored Trump’s efforts to de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and India and reaffirmed Pakistan’s interest in supporting peace and stability within the region.
He underscored Pakistan’s commitment to cooperating with the international community in order to identify sustainable solutions to global issues.
Moreover, PM Shehbaz Sharif also met with and President of Sri Lanka, Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have also reiterated their resolve to continue cooperating closely to further consolidate their bilateral relationship during the coming years.
The two leaders met in an amicable atmosphere, a reflection of the goodwill that prevailed between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Widely ranging areas were discussed, such as high-level exchanges, trade, educational cooperation, cultural exchanges, defense cooperation, and regional and international issues.
The two leaders were pleased at the strong nature of Pak-Sri Lanka bilateral relations.
