ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): During a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, Pakistan and Jordan agreed not to compromise on the displacement of Gaza residents and to further engage with the eight Arab and Islamic countries working on the Gaza ceasefire.
King Abdullah II is on a two-day official visit to Pakistan. Upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s House, he was presented with a guard of honor by the armed forces, while Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif extended a warm welcome.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to enhance cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, investment, health, science and technology, education, and defense, and to expand mutually beneficial relations at regional and international forums.
The Prime Minister said that this visit reflects the long-standing friendship between the two countries and provides an opportunity to enhance cooperation at the regional and international levels.
He added that Pakistan attaches special importance to its relations and wants to strengthen the common position on regional peace and stability.
King Abdullah appreciated Pakistan’s continued support for Jordan’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts on the ongoing Gaza conflict.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s support for Jordan’s role in post-war stabilization in the besieged Gaza Strip, where humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate.
The two leaders reiterated the principled position that there should be no room for forced displacement of Palestinians in any future arrangement.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, several regional issues were also discussed in the meeting.
The Prime Minister briefed King Abdullah on the recent situation in Pakistan’s neighboring countries, especially the changing situation in Afghanistan and the tension with India. King Abdullah appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and addressing security challenges in South Asia.
Many MoUs were signed in a formal ceremony after the meeting, which was witnessed by both leaders. Later, the Prime Minister hosted a dinner in honor of King Abdullah and his delegation. The Jordanian King expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and reiterated his desire to further strengthen the ties.
The meeting was attended by senior civil and military officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Climate Change Mosaddeq Malik, and other senior officials.
According to officials, the visit will give a new impetus to Pakistan-Jordan relations as both countries seek to further advance their shared strategic interests and long-standing diplomatic ties. King Abdullah will conclude his visit on Sunday, November 16, after more engagements.
