MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): PM Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, while addressing a function in Muzaffarabad, emphasised that governance must follow the constitution, accountability applies to both officials and journalists, and the Pakistan Army plays a crucial role in defending the region.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq has emphasised that governance is a serious responsibility that must be conducted by the law and constitution rather than individual wishes. He made these remarks while addressing a function after administering the oath to the newly elected Vice Chairman of the Press Foundation, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali.

During his speech, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of self-accountability, stating that personal integrity and responsibility begin with introspection. “We all have to undergo self-accountability,” he asserted, stressing the need for individuals to evaluate their actions before questioning others.

He also aimed a particular mindset that, according to him, lacks rational thinking. “How can I deal with those who are intellectually blind and immature, unable to distinguish between the civil liberties enjoyed in Azad Kashmir and the oppression faced in Occupied Kashmir?” he questioned.

Discussing the role of the Pakistan Army in safeguarding the region, the PM criticised those who question the military’s presence in AJK. He warned that without the Pakistani armed forces, the region would be left vulnerable to external threats. “Those who criticise the army’s presence must realise that there would be no one to protect or defend them if the armed forces were to leave,” he cautioned.

Focusing on the media, the Prime Minister called for responsible and ethical journalism. He pointed out the distinction between professional journalists and those who enter the field without proper training or commitment. “There is a difference between a professional and an accidental journalist,” he remarked. He urged experienced journalists to contribute their insights and recommendations to the government to uphold truth and combat misinformation.

Recognising journalism as a noble profession, the PM assured that the government would extend all possible support for the welfare of journalists. However, he also stressed that press freedom should not be misused. “Journalists have every right to highlight issues of public interest, but no one should exploit this freedom for personal gain,” he said. He declared accountability should extend to journalists and writers in the same manner it applies to his cabinet members and himself.

During his speech, the Prime Minister demonstrated his government’s dedication to financial transparency by promising that no one would be permitted to abuse public funds. The Prime Minister advised citizens to inform authorities about all signs of corruption together with negligence while promising appropriate action on all reports.

During this meeting PM Anwar ul Haq announced that the annual grant for the Press Foundation was elevated from Rs5 million to Rs10 million, which demonstrated the government’s dedication to reinforce support for journalistic organizations.
