MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir Minister for Rehabilitation Javed Iqbal Badhanvi on Friday directed the Revenue Department to expedite the process of allotting residential plots to the post-1989 Jammu and Kashmir refugees on a priority basis.
He made these directives while chairing a high-level meeting of the committee formed by Prime Minister Anwarul Haq regarding the resettlement and resolution of the problems faced by refugees.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Senior Member Board of Revenue Sardar Zafar Mahmood and Commissioner of Rehabilitation Sardar Waheed Khan.
During the meeting, the minister directed the Revenue Department to identify buildable sites in all districts of Azad Kashmir for the construction of houses for the refugees.
During the meeting, a 14-point charter of demands was presented, including the construction of five-marla houses, a monthly subsistence allowance, a six percent quota in government jobs, issuance of domicile, and reserved seats in the Legislative Assembly.
Badhanvi assured that all legitimate demands would be seriously considered, and practical steps would be taken to resolve the refugees’ problems.
The Minister for Rehabilitation emphasized that the government is committed to addressing the refugees’ issues and would take concrete steps to ensure their rights are protected.
He also highlighted the importance of organizing a movement for the independence and right to self-determination of the Indian-occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir.
