ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Speaker Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly Ch. Latif Akbar has said that lasting peace in South Asia cannot be guaranteed without resolving the core issue of Kashmir.

He said the foundation of the Pakistan People’s Party was laid on the Kashmir issue, and martyred Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the immortal idea of a thousand-year war on Kashmir.

Azad Kashmir a base camp

“Azad Kashmir will have to be a base camp for the freedom movement in the true sense. The political and administrative setup in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is due to the Kashmir freedom movement.”

He expressed these views while addressing an Iftar dinner in honour of the Hurriyat Conference, anchor persons and senior journalists.

On the occasion, Muhammed Farooq Rahmani, Mahmood Sagar, Syed Yousaf Naseem, Mir Tahir Masood, Sheikh Muhammed Yaqub, Abdul Majid Malik, Altaf Butt, Tanveer -ul -Islam, President National Press Club Azhar Jatoi, Aamir Mehboob, Secretary National Press Club Nayer Ali, Raja Ghulam Rahman, Raja Kafil and others were also present.

The Speaker said that President Asif Ali Zardari promoted reconciliation politics in the country.

According to his vision, the federal government is moving forward and the country is coming out of the crisis.

He claimed that the PPP is a real representative party of the people which guarantees the rights of the deprived class.

He said that Ms Benazir Bhutto was very careful about the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

“She had given the Hurriyat Conference status of an observer at the Islamic Summit. She was a strong supporter of freedom of movement,” he said and added the issue is inviting world attention.

She called on the world community to take notice of human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir and play its due role in resolving the Kashmir issue.
