KARACHI (Kashmir English): Inflation based on Pakistan’s Sensitive Price Index (SPI) decreased considerably by 1.97 percent year on year for the week ending March 13, 2025, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

According to the brokerage house Arif Habib Limited (AHL), this decline was the largest drop month-on-month since available data began in 1992.

The prickle effects came majorly from the crashing prices of essential commodities including Onions (down 72.32 percent), Tomatoes (down 51.96 percent), Wheat Flour (36.20 percent), and Chilies Powder (20.00 percent).

Additionally, there were significant drops observed in Electricity Charges for Q1 (-18.92 percent), Tea Lipton (-15.89 percent), and Pulse Mash (-14.98 percent).

However, on a week-on-week basis, SPI-based inflation increased up to 0.22 percent due to price hikes of Tomatoes (36.043 percent), Chicken (6.40 percent), Bananas (6.05 percent), and Sugar (5.69 percent).

Prices of 12 out of 51 items under review observed significant hikes, while those of 15 fell and 24 remained unchanged.
