Pakistan submits initial squad for 2026 T20 World Cup to ICC

LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent the names of the preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup to the International Cricket Council (ICC) with several big names on cards.

According to the sources, the PCB has also sent the names of reserve players along with the initial 15-member squad.

As per details, the PCB can change the names without the permission of the ICC before January 31, after which permission from the ICC Technical Committee will be required for any change in the team.

Sources said that the cricket board plans to announce the final squad for the T20 World Cup and the T20 series against Australia after the series against Sri Lanka.

The PCB wants to see the performance of one to two players in the series against Sri Lanka, sources said, adding that the initial squad includes Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf, along with the players from the Sri Lanka tour.

Also named are Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Mirza, Abrar Ahmad, and Usman Tariq.

It should be noted that the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7, while Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka.
