BIRMINGHAM (Kashmir English): A new controversy has erupted in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) as the Pakistan Champions have refused to share points with the India Champions after their highly anticipated match was called off at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
According to official sources, the match was canceled due to the organizers’ inability to conduct the fixture, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the Indian team was not at fault. However, the Pakistan Champions claim that the Indian side “backed out” of the clash and should not be awarded any points.
The Pakistan Champions expressed disappointment and frustration, saying their team was fully prepared for the match and that the withdrawal appeared one-sided. Team officials argue that India’s players were unwilling to participate and, therefore, should not receive shared points.
This disagreement has created tension between the two teams and sparked fresh debate over the long-standing India–Pakistan cricket rivalry. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt also weighed in, criticizing India’s decision and calling it politically motivated. He went so far as to suggest that if India doesn’t want to play Pakistan, it should avoid them in ICC events and even the Olympics.
The WCL organizers, however, maintained that the decision to cancel the match was logistical and unrelated to either team’s willingness. Despite that, the Pakistan Champions have continued to stand by their stance, refusing to accept a shared outcome.
This development adds another chapter to the strained cricketing relationship between India and Pakistan, where political and sporting tensions often overlap. Fans of both nations were eagerly awaiting the match, which was expected to be one of the highlights of the tournament.
With no resolution yet announced by WCL authorities, it remains to be seen how this controversy will impact the points table and future fixtures involving the Pakistan Champions.
