BIRMINGHAM (AFP): Pakistan Champions have reached the World Championship of Legends (WCL) final as Indian players again refused to play against the Green Shirts in the semi-finals.
The highly anticipated semi-final between Pakistan Champions and India Champions was scheduled for Thursday in Birmingham.
Earlier, the Indian Champions had already opted out of playing against the Pakistan Champions in the group stage match on July 20.
In that case, both teams were awarded one point each.
The Indian team, including players like Yuvraj Singh, Yousaf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Shikhar Dhawan, and Harbhajan Singh, have refused to play against Pakistan Champions not only because of the ongoing political tension between the two neighboring countries but also the presence of iconic cricketer Shahid Afridi in the opposition.
India’s withdrawal automatically propels Pakistan to the final, as per tournament regulations.
Pakistan will now face either the Australia Champions or the South Africa Champions in the tournament’s final match.
Cricket fans around the world have expressed disappointment over the political situation spilling into the sporting arena.
Despite the controversy, Pakistan moves forward and will now aim to bring home the title.
