SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has warmly welcomed the recent remarks by Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, describing it as a morale booster for the Kashmiris resisting India’s illegal occupation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at the Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri cause.

He asserted that no power in the world could separate Kashmir from Pakistan, quoting the historic words of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that “Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan.”

APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that General Syed Asim Munir’s words strongly echoed the long-suppressed sentiments of the Kashmiri people who have endured relentless Indian oppression for over seven decades.

He noted that India has maintained a forcible grip on a large part of Jammu and Kashmir, suppressing the legitimate demand for freedom with brute military force.

The spokesperson highlighted that since 1947, India has martyred nearly half a million Kashmiris and subjected thousands to enforced disappearances.

Kashmir’s special status

The statement said that the situation has further deteriorated under the Modi-led regime, particularly after the unilateral and illegal revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019.

The move, he said, was aimed at erasing IIOJK’s Muslim identity and demographic character. He added that such actions are being carried out in flagrant violation of international laws and norms, despite Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a UN-recognized disputed territory.
