MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Opposition Leader in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Khawaja Farooq Ahmed has written to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir against illegal occupation in Muzaffarabad’s Neelum Park.
According to the details, the Opposition Leader has submitted a letter to the Prime Minister and a notice to draw attention to the Secretary of the Assembly, taking the position that the construction of shops in the premises of the park is illegal and can create a situation of conflict.
In his letter to Prime Minister Anwarul Haq, Khawaja Farooq said that on September 20, 2014, 100 kanals 11 marla land located in Bela Noor Shah area was allotted to the municipality for the construction of the park.
“It was clear in the notification that the park would be constructed at the said place, and if any condition is violated, the government will be authorized to take back the area,” the letter added.
The opposition leader said that for the past one week, someone with the cooperation of the municipality has been constructing shops on a large paved part of the area, which also drew protest from people of the area.
This is also a violation of the 2014 notification, he wrote.
Khawaja Farooq further said in the letter that during my ministry, I had allocated an area for Fatima Jinnah Family Lady Park on a part of the same area and had a boundary wall and gate installed
“I have urged the government to allocate more funds for the family park in the current financial year,” the letter wrote.
He drew the attention of the Prime Minister that if immediate action is not taken against those responsible for illegal encroachments in the park, the rights of the people will be severely affected.
He said that while fulfilling the responsibility immediately, he urged the premier to order and stop illegal encroachments and also take action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, in a notice of attention submitted to the assembly, Khawaja Farooq said that the important public issue should be included in the upcoming session for immediate discussion so that the government can present its position in this regard.
