ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Although launched in 2020, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are still very popular among mobile enthusiasts due to their quality, and especially the OnePlus 8 Pro price.
The OnePlus 8 series is quite similar in looks to the 2019-launched OnePlus 7T Pro. The sole difference is the presence of a fourth camera lens, in addition to the vertically stacked camera module in the OP8 Pro.
Both phones come in Interstellar Glow or Ultramarine Blue (region-dependent), Glacial Green, and Onyx Black colors.
In the front, the conspicuous design shift is that OnePlus has abandoned the pop-up camera and has inked in a punch hole cutout for the front camera instead.
This appears to be a backward step from the seamless full-screen feel of the past. While this was required for the IP68 dust and water resistance, the compromise might be disappointing to some.
Display
As for the screen, the OnePlus 8 features a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.
The OnePlus 8 Pro, meanwhile, has a 6.78-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch response rate. At 1300 nits of brightness, OP8 Pro’s screen is among the brightest and most crystalline of smartphone screens in the market.
Additionally, OnePlus has included a motion optimization feature known as MEMC in the Pro model. This feature inserts extra frames to upgrade the footage to 120Hz, akin to how some TVs do it.
Internals and Storage
As for the innards, both smartphones are driven by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset topped with the latest LPDDR5 RAM standard and UFS 3.0 storage, which means faster app installs and reads/writes. Both smartphones offer 8 GB or 12 GB RAM options with 128 GB or 256 GB onboard storage.
The devices operate on OxygenOS based on Android 10. The new OxygenOS take on Android, the company says, includes 280 new optimizations intended to smooth out the Android experience. Which is pretty much the sole intent of OxygenOS, one that Google should be adhering to.
Cameras
The vanilla version is equipped with a triple sensor back camera with a 48 MP primary sensor, accompanied by a 2 MP Macro Lens and a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 116-degree Field of View.
For the Pro model, one of the key improvements it offers over its predecessor is the new quadruple camera setup. The phone boasts a 48 MP primary sensor, an 8 MP telephoto lens, a 48 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5 MP color filter. The new color filter lens is introduced to assist with lighting effects and filters for shots.
Both phones have a 16 MP selfie sensor.
Battery
The vanilla OnePlus 8 includes a 4,300mAh battery that supports 30W wired charging. The Pro model, however, is equipped with a bit larger 4,510 mAh battery that supports Warp Charge 30T and can charge the phone from 0 to 50% in 23 minutes.
Additionally, the OnePlus 8 Pro at last includes support for 30W “Warp Charge” wireless charging as well, although only when paired with the $70 OnePlus wireless charger.
