BAJAUR (Kashmir English): At least one person was killed and another was injured in an explosion at a cricket ground in the Khar area of Bajaur district on Saturday evening.
The blast was carried out through an improvised explosive device, according to a District Police officer. “It appears to be a targeted attack,” he added.
According to a police official, the incident took place on Saturday evening when local children were playing cricket at the ground.
After the incident, security forces have collected evidence and started investigating, and a bomb disposal squad has also been summoned to find out the motivations of the material installed in the ground.
Earlier in August, Security forces eliminated at least three militants, including a chief commander, in an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in the Loni area of Tehsil Kalachi of Dera Ismail Khan.
The operation was carried out after security sources received intelligence reports of militants being present there.
A strong exchange of fire led to the death of the commander and two of his companions.
The forces also recovered a vast number of arms and ammunition from the killed terrorists, who had been engaged in multiple attacks on security personnel and were wanted in multiple cases.
Security authorities added that the successful operation reaffirms the determination of the forces to eliminate terrorism and make the area secure.
The security forces again expressed their determination to eliminate militancy with the public’s help.
