JAMMU (Kashmir English): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has warned that the proposed Indo-US trade arrangement would severely impact the territory’s economy, particularly its horticulture sector.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in Jammu, Omar Abdullah said IIOJK’s economy is heavily dependent on products like dry fruits, fresh fruits and dairy, unlike coastal regions which benefit from marine industries.

“We have dry fruits, almonds, saffron, apples, kiwis and dairy products. We don’t have any marine industry. If all these items start coming duty-free from America, Jammu and Kashmir will definitely suffer,” Omar Abdullah warned.

“What benefits India may hurt IIOJK”

Omar Abdullah emphasized that the concerns raised are based on facts and ground realities. Omar said he placed certain realities before the people, asserting that what benefits India does not necessarily benefit occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“I am the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and I have to speak in the interest of its people. From this trade deal, we see losses, not benefits,” he concluded.
