MUSCAT (Kashmir English): The Ministry of Labour has announced its intention to create 60,000 jobs in Oman, which will begin work during the year 2026. This initiative represents one of Oman’s most significant employment initiatives, which the country has undertaken during recent times.

The officials provided updated information during the annual performance assessment of the ministry, which detailed the distribution of new job openings between government agencies and private organizations and national training programs.

The ministry plans to establish 10000 new job openings in government offices, while the private sector expects to generate 33000 new employment opportunities.

National training programs that offer qualification and upskilling courses for young Omanis will create 17000 job opportunities, which aim to prepare them for current market requirements.

The Labour Ministry reported that the 50000 private-sector jobs scheduled for 2026 will exist in two main job types, which include positions created through workforce replacement in oil and gas and logistics and tourism, and new positions that will be established through wage subsidies, direct hiring, and specialized training programs.

The labour teams of Oman conducted approximately 15000 inspection visits throughout 2025, which led to the discovery of more than 31000 labour law violations by workers. The officials reported that enhanced enforcement methods, together with digital transformation processes, have established stronger compliance systems that enable quicker employment operations.

The ministry plans to support national talent development through its 2028-2029 government strategy, which focuses on developing talent through freelance work platforms and major institutional partnerships.

The ministry aims to develop Omani workers for supervisory positions, technical positions, and specialized positions, which exist in essential economic sectors. The ministry reported that the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) has advanced its execution through 17 strategic labor programs, which it has established under the plan’s framework.
