Noose tightened around Afghan citizens residing in AJK, arrests begin

RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The authorities have accelerated crackdown on the Afghan citizens illegally residing in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with Rawalakot police arresting several Afghans.

Under the leadership of SHO Rawalakot Police Station, Idris Chughtai, the police have started operation against illegal Afghans residing in Rawalakot.

They will be moved from Rawalakot after biometric verification. The police will send the arrested Afghans to the Afghanistan border to be deported.

More than 600 Afghans currently residing in AJK

It is worth noting that more than 600 Afghans currently residing in the four tehsils of Poonch district, while some have also illegally obtained identity cards.

Now it remains to be seen how long it will take to send them back. The government has directed that all Afghans be deported by November 12 and a report submitted to the government.

It is worth noting that last month, hundreds of Afghan families were also sent back to Afghanistan from Azad Kashmir. This includes cities like Rawalakot, Mirpur, and Muzaffarabad.
