New rain spell to hit parts of Pakistan, Azad Kashmir today

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has forecast a new rain spell across the country with heavy snowfall in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from today (Monday).

As per the Met Office, a strong westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country today and may grip upper parts on February 25.

The new weather system is likely to persist in the Northern areas till March 2. Northern areas are expected to receive snowfall with showers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Balstistan.

Areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur in Kashmir will experience heavy snow and rainfall with occasional gaps.

Meanwhile, Islamabad and areas in Punjab including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum are likely to get heavy rainfall from February 25 to March 1.

Furthermore, the Met Office forecast rainfall in Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad from February 25 to February 28.

Widespread rain with snowfall is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today to March 1 with occasional gaps.

In addition to that, rainfall with snowfall over hills is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagi, Noushki, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Harnai, Zhob, and Musakhel (with occasional gaps) from February 24 to February 26.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that a new rain spell is expected across various parts of the country from today.

A system of westerly winds, as per the Met Office, will enter the country due to which Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad are likely to experience hail.

The PMD’s forecast comes days after the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad finally received heavy rainfall after nearly four months. The wet weather provided much-needed relief to the residents.

Various parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa also experienced rainfall after a long gap, with light to heavy showers reported in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Hafizabad.
