ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Fingerprint verification technology has just been rolled out to online passport applicants. The applicants were facing issues of fingerprint verification, which have now been resolved as NADRA has launched an advanced and efficient system of verification through the Pak ID mobile application.

With this system in place, individuals wishing to apply for passports online will be able to check their fingerprints from the comfort of their homes.

In this system, the fingerprints will be verified through the Pak ID app on NADRA’s database without the need to go to the passport offices for the purpose of fingerprinting.

This new process shall make the processing of online passport applications fast and cheaper, besides making the process clear and transparent.

Additionally, earlier Directorate General of Immigration & Passports, Ministry of Interior, introduced a digital system to monitor passport applications, printing, and operational performance, said the officials on Monday.

Under the initiative, a dedicated 24-hour monitoring room has been set up at the Passport Department’s headquarters in Islamabad on the directives of the Director General, Mustafa Jamal Qazi

According to the officials, the system is powered by a digital integrated dashboard that will allow real-time monitoring and evaluation of daily operations, both within Pakistan and abroad.

Oversight of passport processing

The initiative enables end-to-end oversight of the passport processing, from the submission of applications to final delivery.

Officials said the mechanism would help improve transparency, efficiency, and service delivery.

The monitoring system will also automatically report overcrowding at passport offices, allowing administrators to respond more quickly to pressure points in public service.

In addition, staff performance, passport printing operations, backlog and machinery status will be tracked through the Network Management System.

The DG hoped that the system would significantly improve the department’s performance. He said citizen turnout and staff efficiency across all passport offices would now be monitored centrally, and that a mechanism had been introduced to ensure immediate resolution of issues once identified.
