Neelum: Accused gets life term for raping minor

NEELUM (Kashmir English): The Sessions Court Neelum has sentenced a culprit who had abducted and raped a minor girl in Neelum Valley, to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs2 million.

The Neelum court delivered the verdict within 3 months of the crime, which is being widely appreciated by the public.

The Sessions Court sentenced the culprit Jahangir Rana to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs2 million under sections 377-A and 365 of the Azad Penal Code, and an additional 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 for abduction.

Minors were abducted from Neelum

It is to be noted that the minor sisters were going to their aunt’s house when Jahangir Rana abducted them from Neelum and brought them to a hotel in Muzaffarabad where he subjected the 13-year-old girl to his lust and then dropped the sisters back.

Some people tried to resolve the matter locally through a ‘jirga’, but when the police received news of the girls’ return, they brought them to the police station and obtained important information from the victim girl about the accused’s identity and the hotel.

The doctor confirmed rape in the report, the Athmuqam Police Station registered a case and arrested the accused, while DSP Athmuqam investigated the case.

Following the court order, the culprit has been transferred to Central Jail Rara where he will serve his sentence under sections 377-A and 365 APC.

It is to be noted that the accused was arrested in September, and there was also a strong reaction on social media on the incident.
