NDMA warns of severe weather in next 24 hours

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of possible dangers and disasters due to rains, predicting thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstorms in different parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours.

In a statement issued by the NDMA, in the Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan region, rain is expected in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haveli, Poonch, Neelum Valley, Kotli, Mirpur, Bhimber, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Khullu, Shigar.

There is a possibility of wind and hailstorms, while snowfall is also possible at some places in the upper areas. Rain with wind and thunderstorms is likely in different parts of Sindh during the next 12 to 24 hours.

Including Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Umerkot, Mithi, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas and surrounding areas.

The alert said that rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected in various areas of Balochistan, including Zhob, Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Mastung, Barkhan, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Noshki and surrounding areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain with thunderstorms and strong winds have been predicted in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mingora, Battagram, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, DI Khan and Waziristan.

In Punjab, rain, wind and hail are likely in Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujjar Khan, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Sargodha, Chiniot, Jhang, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Gojra, Layyah, Mianwali, Borewala, Multan and DG Khan.

According to the NDMA, rain and wind may reduce visibility and cause roads to become slippery. There is also a risk of damage to crops, vehicles and weak structures due to hail, and traffic in mountainous areas may be affected by snowfall.

The NDMA has directed that citizens avoid unnecessary travel, stay in safe places during wind and hail, follow local weather instructions and take precautionary measures.

The NDMA has directed the relevant agencies to remain alert and take preventive measures and has said that the entire weather situation regarding the ongoing rain, snowfall and hailstorm in the country is in line with the alerts issued by the NEOC.
