ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of heavy rains in Azad Kashmir and various districts of Punjab in the next 12 to 24 hours.

The NDMA has predicted widespread rain in different parts of AJK, including Neelum Valley, Bagh, Kotli, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Haveli.

The authority has also stated a risk of flooding in the river and nullahs, and landslides in hilly areas of the state. The high flow of water in the rainwater streams may affect the traffic flow on the connecting roads, the NDMA stated.

Similarly, heavy rains are also expected in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, and Pakpattan on August 26 and 27.

The NDMA stated a risk of flooding in urban and low-lying areas, including overflowing of rivers and nullahs, landslides, and flash floods in mountainous areas due to heavy rains.

The disaster management authority has warned citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay aware of weather conditions.

The NDMA has already issued an alert on the increase in the flow of the Sutlej River and possible flooding. The concerned agencies have started large-scale evacuation operations in areas near the Sutlej.

PDMA Punjab, Rescue 1122, and the Pakistan Army are engaged in relief operations to deal with the flood situation.
