National vaccination drive for prevention of cervical cancer starts tomorrow

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Like various parts of the country, the national vaccination campaign for prevention of cervical cancer among young women will begin in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on September 15, it was officially said.

A grand walk was organized in Union Council, Kharidha, Union Council Lehri, Azizpur under the auspices of MERF-ACT International in connection with the national cancer prevention campaign on Saturday.

The event was the hallmark of the inaugural ceremony of the campaign, said Mirpur District Health Officer Dr Fida Hussain Raja.

Doctors, health staff and Lady Health Supervisor and, CRP Anam Zara, while highlighting salient features of the campaign, said that the national campaign for HPV vaccine cancer prevention will formally start from September 15 and will continue for 13 days until Sept 27 to administer vaccine through intramuscular injection to the girls of the age of 9 to 14 years through the paramedical female staff.

Vaccine protects girls from cervical cancer

The doctors disclosed that the HPV vaccine will be injected to the girls free of cost to protect them from a deadly disease like cervical cancer in the future.

The medical experts leading the drive, urged parents to take their daughters to vaccination centers and schools.

The doctors urged the people from all walks of life should participate in this national campaign, as this is a guarantee of protecting girls from diseases like cancer.

Doctors, girls’ school students and teachers, media persons, and representatives of MERF-ACT International participated in the walk.
