ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) member Shaukat Nawaz Mir has moved to file a first information report (FIR) against Kashmir Digital anchorperson Muhammad Mujtaba Butt on charges of defamation, which the anchorperson has categorically dismissed.

According to details, the FIR alleges that defamatory content was aired or disseminated. He was referring to the recent podcast with Hurriyat Leader and rights activist Abdul Hameed Lone, which was posted on Kashmir Digital.

In response, Mujtaba Butt released a video statement addressing the allegations and strongly reacted to the application filed in the Secretariat Police Station, Muzaffarabad.

In his message, he stated that the matter should now be settled in court and emphasized that claims attributed to Abdul Hameed Lone would have to be proven either true or false through legal proceedings.

Addressing Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Butt said, “I thought you were a very good person, but you turned out to be something else.”

Butt told JAAC chief Mir, “Now you will have to prove whether the allegations made against you by Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone are true or false.”

“You tried to make an independent journalist a party in a case with a guest, for which you will have to answer in court,” Mujtaba Butt said to Shaukat Nawaz.

“If you are Kashmiri, then I am also Kashmiri and a more patriotic Kashmiri than you,” Anchorperson Butt said.

Butt also criticized Shaukat Nawaz Mir’s stance and invited him to present his position publicly in a studio discussion.

“I have contacted you to sit in the studio and express your opinion. I still invite you,” Mujtaba Butt added in a video message.
