MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Azad Kashmir, has issued a monsoon rains alert after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rains in Azad Kashmir from July 11 to 17.

PMD predicted that series of westerly winds is expected to enter the country from July 13. The Met Office issued high-alert warnings for flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in vulnerable areas.

Under the influence of these weather systems, areas of Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Battian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, will experience intermittent rain with strong winds and thundershowers from July 11 to July 17.

As PMD predicted heavy rainfall, SDMA has issued precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

The disaster management authority has warned the public to stay away from streams, rivers, and other hazardous areas prone to flash flooding.

The authority urged citizens to choose safe routes and stay updated on the latest weather conditions to avoid disruptions.

“In case of emergencies, contact the district administration or rescue agencies immediately. Exercise extra caution while traveling in hilly areas due to the risk of landslides,” SDMA said in a weather advisory.

The authority also requested the public to keep the drainage systems around houses clean to prevent water accumulation. “Farmers are advised to take preventive measures to protect their crops from potential damage,” the advisory stated.
