MIRPUR (Kashmir English): As the countdown to Eid ul Fitr has begun, markets across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including the thickly-populated Mirpur district, wore a festive look with people coming out in large number for Eid shopping.
Residents thronged the markets in major cities including the State’s metropolis Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimbher, Rawalakot, Palandri, Bagh accompanying the families, especially children to buy clothes, shoes, groceries and edibles.
Eid-ul-Fitr which marks the end of Holy month of Ramadan is most likely to be celebrated in AJK on March 31 subject to the sighting of Shawaal moon.
Eid shopping causing traffic chaos
In Mirpur, the ancestral city of over a million of UK-based Kashmiri expatriates, the central business hub Shaheed Chowk, F/1, Naangi and Allama Iqbal Road in the city has started witnessing a heavy rush of shoppers causing traffic chaos on all major routes to the business centers.
Traffic wardens had a tough time managing the traffic mess despite weekend.
