MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Maqsood Mir, the Deputy Director of the Information Department in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has obtained interim bail after being named in a sexual scandal and becoming wanted by police.

Currently posted at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Maqsood Mir has been closely involved in media affairs for AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, there had reportedly been no action taken against him for the past two months, during which he continued performing official duties.

The scandal recently came to light after police listed Maqsood Mir as a suspect in an ongoing investigation. However, instead of being taken into custody, he appeared before the relevant court and secured interim bail on July 29. This has raised questions about whether political connections influenced the delay in legal action.

Earlier, the police department said that the accused Mudassar Shah alias Toto has fled to London, while the Deputy Director Maqsood Ahmed has been in hiding for the past ten days, and Ghaffar Qureshi is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

As per the details, the case involves several senior government officials, including Arif Butt and Hasnain, who are accused for sexual exploitation of women by promising them jobs.

Sources said that more arrests and revelations are expected in the next few days, while the investigation is likely to reach federal agencies.

As of now, the court has not set a final hearing date, but Maqsood Mir will likely have to present further evidence to support his case in the coming weeks.
