Light snowfall expected in northern areas of Pakistan: PMD

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted light snowfall in the country’s northern highlands, while mainly cold and dry weather is expected to persist across most regions.

The Met Office reports that hilly areas will experience partial cloudiness during the day, and extremely cold weather conditions will develop at night and during the morning.

Isolated locations in Gilgit-Baltistan may experience light rain and snowfall, while Chitral and its surrounding valleys will see brief precipitation under cloudy skies. The weather in Islamabad and its nearby regions will remain dry throughout the day, which will bring cold temperatures during both morning and nighttime hours.

The daytime will bring strong winds, which will create gusty conditions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience cold and dry weather throughout most of its areas, while the upper districts will experience especially cold temperatures during the early and late parts of each day.

Punjab will experience dry weather throughout the region, while Murree and Galiyat hill stations will maintain their cold and dry weather conditions. The central and southern plains will experience strong winds during daytime hours. The weather in Karachi and the entire Sindh region will remain mostly dry.

Balochistan will experience dry weather conditions in most of its districts, although northern areas will experience colder nighttime and early morning temperatures. Kashmir will maintain cold weather with partial cloud cover and extremely low temperatures during the night.

The PMD reported that over the past 24 hours, cold and dry conditions remained predominant throughout most areas of the country. The northern regions experienced temperatures which dropped to −9°C in Leh, −5°C in Astore, and −3°C in Kalam, while other northern areas reached a minimum temperature of −2°C.
