JHELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): The Leopard that muled an 8-year-old girl to death and injured a teenage boy was killed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Jhelum Valley district on Monday.

According to the officials, a special sniper team from the Pakistan Army successfully eliminated the leopard, which had terrorized the area for the past several days.

The wild animal mauled an eight-year-old girl to death in a border village of Nalai Dabra’n in Jhelum Valley on Saturday, and later on Sunday afternoon, the animal attacked a teenage boy in the same village, who narrowly escaped death.

The big cat pounced on the boy, identified as Mudassir Ali Awan, when he was returning home after attending the funeral prayers of the deceased girl, who was also the victim of the same leopard. As he shouted for help, the residents risked their lives to save the student.

A day earlier, the leopard snatched a minor girl from her home’s courtyard and dragged her into the nearby forest, where her mutilated body was found hours later.

The tragic death of the young girl has sparked anger and fear among the villagers, who said the authorities had failed to respond adequately despite repeated incidents involving wild animals in human settlements.
