LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars on Monday fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs1 million over a security breach.

The official statement said that he was fined for facilitating unauthorised entry into the players’ room, a violation of PSL security protocols.

The franchise said that the matter was investigated internally and was not a deliberate violation but a misunderstanding, adding that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been informed of the decision.

The statement said that an unusual incident had taken place in the team hotel on March 28, on which the franchise management took strict notice and completed a full internal inquiry.

It maintained that “the incident had been exaggerated and presented contrary to facts in some reports.”

The action against Shaheen has been taken in the spirit of accountability and discipline, the statement said, reiterating that the franchise respects all security protocols.

Officials said that the Qalandars’ captain had taken guests of teammate Sikandar Raza into the players’ room at the team hotel despite security staff refusing permission.

It should be noted that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations) Muhammad Faisal wrote a letter to the PSL chief executive officer regarding the protocol violation in the teams’ hotel in Lahore involving LQ players Sikandar Raza and Shaheen Shah Afridi

“As per the contents of the report of the superintendent of police (operations), Civil Lines Division, Lahore, a serious breach of established security protocols occurred on March 28, 2026, at the PC hotel where all PSL participant teams are currently residing under strict security arrangements,” the letter wrote.

Sikandar Raza takes responsibility

Answering a press conference after last night’s match, Lahore Qalandars all-rounder Sikandar Raza has said that he accepts full responsibility for a security breach that allowed unauthorised individuals into his hotel room.

The Lahore Qalandars all-rounder made it clear that captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was not at fault, saying the breach occurred solely because of his own actions.

Raza dismissed those claims and took the blame entirely. He explained that the visitors were close friends and family, and that Afridi had only assisted them at his request.

“The responsibility lies with me, not Shaheen,” Raza said. “My friends and family were visiting, and I asked him to help them come up. He went down only because I requested it.”
