MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, has announced that his party will observe August 5 as “Kashmir Protection Day”.
Addressing a press conference at the Central Press Club, Muzaffarabad, today, Dr. Mushtaq rejected India’s move on August 5, 2019, which paved the way for the alleged illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that India has so far settled more than 4.2 million non-state persons in Kashmir and is preparing to sabotage a future referendum.
He emphasized that all Kashmiris, regardless of their residence, have the right to participate in the referendum and called for a comprehensive database of state residents.
Dr. Mushtaq demanded that the government of Pakistan should play an effective role on the diplomatic front, appoint a special representative for Kashmir, and use the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to resolve the Kashmir issue.
He said that all Kashmiris, whether residing in Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Srinagar, or anywhere in the world, have the right to participate in the referendum, and for this purpose, a comprehensive database of state residents should be compiled.
In addition to that, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami AJK also announced to provide freelancing training to one lakh youth in Azad Kashmir.
In another development, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Women’s Wing District Jhelum Valley, Member District Council Ghazala Ashraf Awan, joined Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). She announced her candidacy for Constituency 7 in the upcoming elections.
Dr. Mushtaq Khan’s election campaign may pose a challenge to PML-N candidate Raja Farooq Haider, who won by a narrow margin in the previous elections.
