ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The representatives of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) failed to attend the meeting of the high-level committee to deliberate on the issue of refugee seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Despite the fact, the federal government has reiterated its firm commitment to fulfill the agreement signed between the representatives of the federal government, AJK government, and the JAAC.
As per details, the meeting was convened today after timely and formal invitations were issued to the representatives of the Awami Action Committee.
However, their non-attendance at such an important meeting has been termed regrettable, especially at a time when significant progress has been made, as per the commitment, and continuous interaction is essential for future progress.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, has chaired several high-level meetings to implement the demands put forward by JAAC.
These efforts reflect the sincere intention of the federal government to address public concerns through dialogue, legal review, and practical measures.
As a result of the agreement dated October 4, a meeting was scheduled to be held on January 2, 2026, at 16:00 in the Committee Room of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON.
Despite the notice of the meeting being issued on December 12, 2025, the members of the action committee failed to attend the meeting. Other members of the committee waited for them for a considerable time.
As per the earlier notification, Khashih-ur-Rehman, Additional Secretary, Legal Advisor, and Consultant of Pakistan’s Ministry of Law and Justice, was nominated as a member of the nine-member high-level committee.
Moreover, the federal government also nominated Hassan Mahmood, Legislative Advisor, Ministry of Law and Justice, and Taimoor Zareen Khan, Consultant Research, Ministry of Law and Justice, to the committee.
From the AJK government, Law Minister Mian Abdul Waheed, senior PML-N leader and lawyer Sardar Tahir Anwar, and lawyer Raja Ejaz Ahmed are nominated as committee members.
In addition to that, the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has nominated Raja Amjad Ali Khan Advocate, Sardar Arbab Advocate, and Saad Ansari Advocate.
The notification added that “the committee shall hold meetings as frequently as it deems fit and may submit its recommendations before the Monitoring and Implementation Committee of the above-mentioned agreement.”
