MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has called an important meeting in Kotli on March 8, 2025, to review the implementation of 12-point agreement, signed on December 8, 2024, by AJK government.

Earlier on December 8, 2024, JAAC ended its four-day wheel-jam and shutter-down strike in Kashmir and withdrew its long march call for January 23 following successful negotiations with the state government.

The JAAC spokesperson said that despite the government’s continuous reneging on its promises, the Joint Awami Action Committee has shown seriousness and kept giving the government time. However, the government has been showing a lack of seriousness in implementing the promises and agreements made by the government at Kohala on December 8, 2024, the spokesperson said.

“The government has completely failed to fulfill its promise to dismiss the baseless and bogus FIRs registered from May 9 to December 8 within ninety days against the peaceful protestors and to issue character certificates from December 9, 2024,” he maintained.

Keeping this situation in mind and to bring other important issues under consideration, the most important meeting of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 3 pm in Sarsawa, Kotli district.

During the negotiation talks, the JAAC had demanded withdrawal of the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Ordinance, 2024, and release of its arrested workers among other things. Following the talks, JAAC chief Shaukat Nawaz Mir and AJK minister Nisar Ansar Abdali signed a 12-point agreement.

As per the agreement with the government, the JAAC leadership demanded that all the cases against the group’s activists, except 50, would be withdrawn within 90 days in accordance with the law.

The agreement stated that sacked government employee Sohaib Arif would be reinstated, a brother of deceased JAAC supporter Azhar would be provided a government job and Rs1 million compensation each would be paid to the four injured people within seven days.
