Weather update: Islamabad, Rawalpindi receive heavy rain and hailstorm

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The residents of the twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, are witnessing the first winter rain, accompanied by light hail, bringing much-needed relief from the dryness and smog.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Cloudy weather with rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with snowfall over the hills) is expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

While rain-wind/thunderstorm is also likely at isolated places in the Potohar region, Islamabad, and North-East Punjab during the evening/night.

An isolated hailstorm may occur in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeastern Punjab, and the Potohar region during the period. Dry weather is likely in other central/southern parts of the country.

Additionally, for the next 24 hours, the Met Office has predicted that dry weather is expected in most plain areas of the country. Whereas, cloudy weather will prevail in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir with light rain and light snowfall on the mountains.

According to Accuweather, heavy thunderstorms are predicted in the evening. Travelers and tourists are advised to schedule their trips, particularly in hilly areas, keeping in view the weather forecast.

Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to loose structures during the period.

The rain in the Twin Cities has provided the much-needed relief to the residents. With this rain, Pakistan has officially marked the beginning of the winter season.
