ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The installation of mandatory M-Tag and e-tag system continues in the federal capital, with the administration having significantly increased the number of installation points.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration is making an electronic tagging system mandatory for all vehicles entering or traveling within the capital to improve security and traffic management.
Vehicles that already have a Motorway M-Tag do not need a separate e-tag, as the systems are being integrated.
While a pilot project is underway, the authorities are yet to announced a date for strict enforcement with penalties, but authorities are urging citizens to get their tags without delay.
In the first phase, the focus is on four-wheelers as motorcycles will be included in a later phase. The administration has expanded the network of M-Tag/e-tag installation points to accommodate public demand.
e-tag installation points
The e-tag installation points include Kachnar Park, I-8 (9am to 9pm); Islamabad Club (9am to 9pm); Lake View Park (9am to 9pm); F-9 Park (9am to 9pm); Tarlai (9am to 9pm); Gulberg Greens (9am to 9pm); 26 Number Chungi (9am to 9pm); Excise and Taxation Office, H-9 (3pm to 9pm); Excise Office, H-8; and Motorway Toll Plazas (Standard hours).
To obtain a tag, motorists need to present the original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), and original vehicle registration documents.
Approximate cost for the tag is around Rs250 (plus an initial balance requirement). One can also manage M-Tag balance and check status via the M-Tag One Network mobile app.
