ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian arrived at the Prime Minister’s House to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit yesterday. President Masoud Peshkeshian visited the Iqbal Shrine and later met with Muslim League President Nawaz Sharif.

Today, the Iranian President is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

In this regard, President Masoud Peshkeshian first reached the Prime Minister’s House, where Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif warmly welcomed him, and then the President of the brotherly Islamic country was also presented with a guard of honor.

According to sources, matters of mutual cooperation will be discussed in the meeting between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Iranian President, and later agreements and memorandums of understanding will be signed.

A luncheon has also been arranged in honor of Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian.

The Iranian president is also scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari this evening. The president is also expected to host a dinner in honor of the Iranian president.

Diplomatic sources say that further promotion of Pak-Iran relations, cooperation in energy and trade will be discussed in the bilateral meetings.

Foreign Ministers Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to discuss the situation in the region, bilateral trade, contacts, and energy cooperation.

According to the Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson, initial discussions were held on the key points of the leadership-level talks in the meeting.

The FO said that emphasis was placed on making the permanent mechanism of consultation and coordination more effective on this occasion.

Both leaders also reiterated their commitment to further strengthen Pak-Iran brotherly relations. During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the promotion of economic and security cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

Defence Ministers Meeting

Minister for Defence of the Islamic Republic of Iran Brigadier General Aziz Nasir-Zadeh held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional peace and stability as well as deepening bilateral ties throughout the meeting.

Mutually beneficial topics were covered by both parties, such as counterterrorism initiatives, regional security, and ways to strengthen defense cooperation between the two neighbors.

Asif emphasized the value of defense diplomacy in tackling common security issues and conveyed gratitude for Iran’s ongoing involvement.

The Iranian defense minister expressed gratitude to the Pakistani leadership for the cordial welcome and reaffirmed Iran’s intention to forge closer defense relations founded on trust, respect, and shared principles.

With both presidents expressing hope about the future of Pakistan-Iran defense relations and promising to keep cooperating for the region’s security and prosperity, the meeting ended on a positive note.
