ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistanis to get faster and reliable internet as the government has announced to lay down three new submarine cables.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said that these cables will not only provide faster internet but also provide more opportunities for innovation and investment in the country.
The IT Minister added that no progress can be made without having modern tech infrastructure.
With 10 million new mobile phone users in the last year alone, Pakistan’s digital development is already surpassing previous benchmarks.
In Pakistan, there are currently over 200 million cellphone users as of 2025, and internet usage has increased by 25% over the last two years.
Most excitingly, 8 million women made their first online appearances, which is considered a significant step toward digital inclusion.
However, Pakistan has suffered millions of dollars in losses due to internet shutdowns over the years. On various occasions, the mega social media applications face frequent suspension.
Earlier, the government also installed a firewall to curb the anti-state content on social media, which also led to the suspension of various other services.
