PARIS (Kashmir English): President International Kashmir Peace Forum (IKPF) France, Zahid Iqbal Hashmi, has strongly condemned India’s deployment of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) of the Central Reserve Police Force in Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to intensify its brutal oppression of the unarmed Kashmiris.

In a statement, Hashmi said that thousands of Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders and youth, have been illegally detained for years in the occupied region.

Sustainable peace in South Asia is dependent on the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

He said that for the past 78 years, the people of Kashmir have been engaged in a peaceful struggle to achieve their birthright to self-determination.

Following the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, India now aims to divide Kashmir along communal lines under a nefarious agenda.

Demographic changes in Kashmir

India is pursuing a malicious plan to alter the demographic makeup of Kashmir and the Jammu region, he added.

Over the past six years, hundreds of thousands of domicile certificates have been issued to Indian citizens, including members of the occupying forces.

He emphasized that the time has come for the world community to intervene and take concrete steps toward resolving the Kashmir conflict, in order to protect the Kashmiri people from the aggression of India’s Hindutva-driven government.
