BAGH (Kashmir English): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has said that the international community must take effective notice of Indian state terrorism in Kashmir and play its much needed role to help resolve the lingering dispute that has been the root cause of tension and human rights violations in the region.
While addressing an Iftar dinner organized in his honour by Member Municipal Corporation Bagh Syed Ashfaq Gardezi on Tuesday, the President said that the global community should shun its policy of indifference towards the sufferings of the Kashmiri people and help them in securing their birth right to self-determination.
Existential threat to Kashmiris
Terming India’s imperialistic presence in the region as an existential threat to Kashmiris, he said that the world must realize the fact that peace and stability in South Asia was inescapably linked to the settlement of the unresolved dispute.
Referring to his recent trip to Britain and the United States, the President said that he had effectively pleaded the Kashmiris’ case before the international community and made it clear that peace in the subcontinent will remain a distant dream unless the Kashmir issue was resolved in line with the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
“The main purpose of my foreign visit was to draw the attention of the international community to the Kashmir issue and to expose the ugly face of India to the world,” he remarked.
Reiterating his commitment to serve the people of the state, he said that welfare of people has been central to his decades-long political journey.
Recalling his five-year tenure as Prime Minister of the state, Barrister Chaudhry said, “I focused particularly on Bagh during my time in office and implemented an educational package for the region”.
‘Similarly, Bagh Development Authority and municipal corporation was established during my time in office,” he added.
The President assured the audience that the problems being faced by the people of Bagh will be resolved on priority basis.
The function was attended by Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Dairy Development Sardar Mir Akbar, President Advisor Sardar Imtiaz Khan, Chairman District Council Bagh Sardar Asif, Mayor Bagh Abdul Qayyum Baig, Basharat Badshah Advocate and others.
