How to prevent mobile data overcharging: Guidance from PTA

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued an important advisory addressing the growing concern of unexpected and excessive mobile data charges.

PTA stated that “many consumers continue to access internet services even after expiry of data bundles or exhaustion of available limits, resulting in Pay As You Go (PAYG) charges, which can consume mobile balance in no time without any intimation to consumers.”

To address this critical issue of mobile data overcharging in an effective manner, PTA has announced that consumers can access the free ‘Balance Save’ (PayG Blocker) service available across all major mobile networks in Pakistan.

“This facility will disconnect internet services once data bundles are consumed, thus preventing any further consumption leading to unwanted deductions from balance.”

Mobile phone users can activate this protective feature through simple codes provided by their telecom networks.

Furthermore, PTA also reiterates that it remains fully committed to safeguarding consumer rights and fostering greater transparency in the telecommunications sector. This initiative is part of continued efforts to ensure that users are provided with fair, clear, and predictable mobile services without any hidden charges.

Through this announcement, users are encouraged to activate this service right away in order to avoid any unexpected charges and gain better control over their mobile services.
