Heavy rain, duststorm predicted in Azad Kashmir on May 23, 24

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain with duststorm and isolated hailstorm in Punjab and northern areas of the country, including Azad Kashmir. 

Met Office informed that “moist currents are continuously penetrating the upper and central parts of the country” and a westerly wave is also likely to enter upper parts on May 24.

In a press release, PMD predicted that under the influence of this weather system, duststorm and rain is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and other cities of Punjab from May 23 (evening/night) to 24.

Cities of Punjab which will come under this weather system include Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sheikhupura.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan will also witness rainfall and isolated hailstorms from May 23 to 24th May.

“Rain/wind-thunderstorm is also expected in Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, D G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah and D.I.Khan on 24th May,” the met office said.

AJK SDMA issues weather advisory

In light of the latest forecast of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of AJK has issued a weather advisory.

The SDMA added that there is a possibility of landslides in the hilly areas, power outages, the falling of trees, and dangerous situations in open places.

The disaster management authority urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, especially in hilly and low-lying areas where the risk of landslides may be high.

“Stay in safe buildings and avoid going near electric poles, trees, and other unsafe structures,” the SDMA advisory added. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions.

The authority has also advised tourists to keep a close eye on the weather conditions and follow the instructions given by the local administration or police.

The public has been urged to immediately contact Rescue 1122, local administration, or nearby relief agencies in case of any emergency and minimize any possible danger.
